THE NCCR ORGANIZED SOCIAL MEETING ABOUT SUPPORTING RIGHT OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The NCCR organized social meeting about supporting right of people with disabilities on Sunday 28/4/2013 . Seventeen of students of media department in the AlAzhar University attended the meeting in NCCR headquarter in Gaza.
At the beginning of the meeting, miss FatmaAlGhusain, advocacy program officer, welcomed the attendees and explained the activities and programs of the NCCR, focusing light on the importance of raising awareness about the rights of people with disabilities in Gaza Strip.
Then, she showed the most important violations that people with disabilities are exposed to, especially women, and the importance of raising social awareness about them, explaining the importance of media in focusing lights on social issues especially which are related to people with disability.
On another hand, it was concentrated on the importance of changing the negative perception about people with disabilities in society and respect their abilities and capacities, added the importance of stopping all kinds of discrimination and violations against them, and giving them their rights equally like their peers to activate and reintegrate them in society.
And, a documentary film about the models of disabled people showed. It talked about their suffering and problems especially the social negative perception in addition to reasons of disabilities.
At the end, the attendees discussed strategies of interventions for raising awareness about rights of people with disabilities, especially university students, and the possibility of participating in advocacy campaigns to support the rights of people of disabilities, and law of disabled people, assuring their desires to raise awareness among their families and friends.
Also, AlGhusain thanked the attendees for their interests in this topic and eagerness to participate effectively in changing the social negative perception of people with disabilities.
