THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR COMMUNITY REHABILITATION CARRIED OUT A WORKSHOP ABOUT THE DECLARATION ON THE RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT AND REALITY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The National Center for Community Development carried out a workshop on Wednesday, 15/502013, about the Declaration on the Right to Development and reality of persons with disabilities in context of development in comparison with provisions of the Universal Declaration, in the headquarter of the NCCR. Fourteen students of Faculty of Law participated in the workshop.
At the beginning of the workshop, Fatmah AlGhusein, officer of Advocacy Program , welcomed the participants, and made a presentation about the NCCR activities and programs in addition to the objectives of the workshop which is about rights of persons with disabilities in Gaza Strip and their rights in participating in the process of social development.
The most important problems and violations against persons with disabilities in the Palestinian society were discussed in addition to the importance of raising awareness about their legal rights equally to other segments in society, especially their right in development and active participating in all aspects of life, assuring that they are active group and have the abilities which enable them to participate in community.
furthermore, it was focused on the importance of changing the negative perception of society about persons with disabilities, and respecting their rights and abilities in addition to stopping discrimination and violence and giving them their rights equally to other segments in society to be activated and reintegrated in society.
In addition, the conventions of Declaration on the Right to Development were reviewed, as well as obstacles and difficulties facing nations in process of comprehensive development and persons with disabilities when participating in the process.
At the end of the workshop, the participants concluded the following recommendations:
– Contributing in reinforcing persons of disabilities to participate in training and education.
– Increasing the community awareness sessions to raise awareness about rights of persons with disabilities.
– Stopping discrimination and violations against persons with disabilities and achieving equity and justice.
– Urging concerned entities to give more importance to public rehabilitation to facilitate the process of persons with disability inclusion in society.
At the end, Al Ghusein thanked the participants for their eagerness to participate effectively in changing the negative perception of society about persons with disabilities.
Worthily mentioned, this community workshop came in context of activities of advocacy outreach program aiming to raise community awareness on issues related to persons with disabilities in Gaza Strip.
