The home care team at the National Center for Community Rehabilitation in Gaza conducted a number of awareness-raising activities in schools targeting 160 students and teachers at the elementary level, junior high and high school where a number of students with disabilities study on 10 and 11 April 2013.

The schools included; Khalifa bin Zayed School, Musa Bin Naseer School, beach (G) School, and beach (D) School.

During these activities, the National Center, its services and success stories to the children were reintegrated into kindergarten in preparation for entering school was included. Topics discussed included; the concept of disability and its causes, types and rights of the disabled and to highlight their right of education and integration in schools with their peers of non-disabled students and how to deal with students with disabilities at the school and integration mechanisms.

These activities were welcomed by the participants and increased the awareness among school students regarding integration of students with disabilities and how to deal with them.

These activities come from a series of activities carried out by the National Centre to promote the concept of integration in schools and the principle of equal opportunities and equality.
