National Center for Community Rehabilitation distributes assistive devices and materials for people with disabilities in the Gaza Strip

The National Center for Community Rehabilitation organized an event on Wednesday 26.12.2012 in the presence of about 200 people with disabilities and their families and supporters in addition to media agencies. The event included distribution of tools and medical supplies (wheelchairs, Air Chair Mattresses, Incontinence Materials, Toilet Wheelchairs, Air bed Mattresses, Walkers, Elbow crouches, Dressing materials) to 100 disabled people from Gaza and the North, these materials were donated by Stichting voor Christelijke Ziekenverzorging in Nederland. Sawsan Al-Khalili began the event by welcoming the disabled and guests, then Mr. Khaled Abu Zeid, NCCR consultant, talked about the importance of supporting people with disabilities and the center’s attempts to improve and increase services to respond to the needs of persons with disabilities in the Gaza Strip. Then the young disabled man – Mohammed AlDani – recited poetry on disability explaining the suffering of the disabled person and the perception of the community and family for them. Dr. Wael Abu Rizk Executive Director of the National Center talked about the reality of disabled people in the Gaza Strip and the impact of the blockade and the split on the lives of Gazans and especially the disabled. This event is considered as the first phase of the distribution of materials and assistive devices and it will be followed by distribution of these tools in the regions of Central and South
